I Fell in Love at the Palais Garnier

When I was in Paris this spring, my friend and I took a tour of the Palais Garnier. It was exquisitely gorgeous, and we appreciated it as much as we could through our foggy, jet-lagged brains. 

At one point, I looked up and saw this surprisingly unique ceiling detail. Bats?? On the ceiling of the Paris Opera House? I immediately fell in love with the whole motif. I've never seen anything like it!

Unfortunately, I couldn't really find more information about the inspiration behind this one little nook of the grand Opera House. That hasn't stopped me from being inspired to use it in a client's bar or powder room - sometimes the smallest spaces are the most fun to design!
